Jordan's First Birthday, Uncle Al turns 90 and yet another crazy weekend.

Oy! Another crazy weekend. Filled to the rim with parties, meetings, activity. Help. Somebody get me a bus! (That's what my son Michael once said, spontaneously, at age four or so, while losing at some board game. We've remembered that ever since.)

So why was it so crazy, you might ask. OK, so first on Saturday -- a very, very beautiful Saturday I might add -- there's a 1 year birthday party that we are to attend. That's out on Lon Gisland - the south shore. Please don't even ask about the traffic going out there. You know, the Belt Parking Lot was the road du tour.

This birthday bash was held at the Timber Point Golf Club, a lovely country club sprawled out upon the waterways of the south shore. Now this is a party for a one year old mind you. At a country club. OK, never mind. It's just what's done nowadays??!!

Regardless (or irregardless?) the place was beautiful, the guests - very young and their kids, well all one, two, three, four and five year olds. The food was good too. But the best part was that we got to see our grand-nieces and nephew and that's always very much fun.

So that was Saturday of the weekend from hell. Next on the weekend platter was a 2-event Sunday. First we headed to New Jersey to Stacey's Uncle Al's 90th birthday party. This was in River Vale. Fortunately, the traffic, via Manhattan to the Washington Bridge and the Palisades Parkway, breezed along ... sort of like the old days when you could get in your car and actually drive somewhere without a fuss, a traffic jam or frenetic, congested highways. We did take the opportunity to fill up the car with gas because NJ gas is so "cheap." Gas fills are now topping $30 a fillup!

Uncle Al Smolin looks like he's 80 ... maybe. But certainly not 90. He's quite remarkable: sharp, strong, upright. Still drives each and every day from New Jersey to midtown Manhattan to his business. Works a full day, then drives home. It was a pleasure to celebrate his 90th birthday. Stacey's Aunt Margie, who has been in and out of hospitals over the last 8 months, was home to celebrate as well -- so it was a very emotional celebration.

We've spent many good times with the Smolins and their family. Stacey, whose parents are long gone, feels very close to this, the last link to her parents. Her cousin Stephanie (Al and Margie's daughter) is more like a sister than a cousin. So this is real "family."

Good enough to eat...and we did!

Peter and Aunt Margie ... so glad she's home again.
