Spring Finally Sprung.

Apr 10, 2005

Went for a bike ride in Prospect Park today and what a difference between the gray and cold weather of the last few weeks and today. Temperatures were up into the 70's, the sun was strong and warm and the park was besieged with the yearning masses ... yearning for nice weather and a place to recreate, hang and just be as one with nature. The Park Drive was filled with bikers, skaters, walkers and joggers. We ended up biking around the drive twice -- each lap is some three and a half miles. A bit of exercise on a grand and glorious spring day.

Spring has sprung in Prospect Park. Looking west across Long Meadow.

Early cherry blossoms - a nice place to sit and study.

This morning, before our ride, we called for my Aunt Sissy and the three of us went out for some brunch. Since we're not as close to her apartment as we used to be, we picked her up and drove to nearer Bay Ridge for breakfast, rather than driving back to our neighborhood. After eating we walked along the edge of Brooklyn for a beautiful view of the Verrazano Bridge. The bridge celebrated the 40th anniversary of its opening last year on November 21st (that's also Stacey's birthday).

Chatting on a lovely spring day.

Tonight, we're off to Manhattan to see David Rothenberg perform his one man show, Namedropping. David is a WBAI personality whose Saturday morning program we rarely miss. Rothenberg worked as a publicist for Broadway theaters for many years(now retired)and his show at the Mint Theater contains his reminiscences of those years and the contacts and conversations with celebrities of the stage.

His radio program is filled with progressive commentary, lots of good music (moslty old show tunes and jazz vocals) and occasional interviews with theatric and literary luminaries. He also fundraises for 'BAI by offering theater tickets to listeners at greatly reduced prices. If you haven't listened in, you'll probably be pleasantly surprised - every Saturday morning from 8:30 to 10:30 AT 99.5 fm on your dial (or streaming at WBAI.org).
